Dolly De Leon in Triangle of Sadness

“Triangle of Sadness” is coming to cinemas on November 30

The Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or winner finally has a release date in the Philippines. Triangle of Sadness will start screening in cinemas nationwide on November 30, 2022, exclusively distributed by TBA Studios.

The movie, considered a satirical masterpiece, is directed by Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund and follows a group of people who were invited to join a luxury cruise for the A-listers and affluent. Set in the world of fashion, the group, including fashion model couple Carl (Harris Dickinson from The King’s Man) and Yaya (the late Charlbi Dean) embarks on a cruise that turns soon catastrophic.

It becomes a fight for survival where social status and hierarchies are turned upside down.

The movie also stars our very own Dolly De Leon (Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 3, Historya Ni Ha), who became an international sensation with rave reviews for her performance. Other actors include Woody Harrelson (Zombieland).

Triangle of Sadness was easily the most talked-about film at the festival. Lauded by critics and audiences alike, the movie received an 8-minute standing ovation during its premiere screening. Film critic, Robbie Collin, gave it five stars and called it “a bold and brilliant film.” IGN’s Ryan Lesto writes, “Triangle of Sadness is a comedic tour de force from a director who really understands how to wage a tremendously funny class war. Östlund’s cringe-inducing humor pairs well with some genuine laugh-out-loud moments to create an all-around hilarious social satire.”

Critics also praised the spectacular performances of the ensemble cast, most notably Filipino actress Dolly de Leon’s breakout performance as Abigail, the yacht’s cleaning lady. Variety’s Clayton Davis describes her performance as “Oscar-worthy”, suggesting that De Leon’s defining supporting performance deserves recognition from the Academy Awards.
