The long wait for the MCU debut of Marvel’s first family is finally over as The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in cinemas this July 23! MCU and Marvel comics fans are in for a treat with a movie that brings emotional depth, personal redemption, and thrilling action.
At its core, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a story about family, purpose, and rediscovery. It explores the balance between being a family and being superheroes, often questioning whether their powers are a gift or a curse, set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world.

The Fantastic Four are a relatable family—one that bickers and struggles like any other. The Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominated actor and Mandalorian lead Pedro Pascal plays the brilliant Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, while BAFTA winner Vanesa Kirby brings Sue Storm/Invisible Woman to life. Indie veteran and The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach is the hard-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside Ben Grimm/The Thing, and CinemaCon® Breakthrough Performer of the Year Awardee Joseph Quinn is the fiery Johnny Storm/Human Torch.

Staying true to the 1961 comics, The Fantastic Four: First Steps tells the story of a family whose lives were forever changed after an experimental space flight exposed them to cosmic rays and granted them incredible superhuman powers. United by their shared extraordinary experience, the four pledged to stay together as a team—a family—and explored uncharted regions of the universe to confront evil wherever they found it. Their latest challenge comes in the form of one of the most powerful and fearsome cosmic entities in the MCU, Galactus, Devourer of Worlds, and his Herald, the Silver Surfer.
The Fantastic Four are a team of heroes who were people first and superheroes second, breaking the mold of traditional superhero storytelling. This direction was a deliberate choice with the director Matt Shakman saying, “One of the most exciting things about the Fantastic Four is that they are people first. They’re Super Heroes only when they have to be. And that’s what I love about them. They’re like us. They struggle with problems the way that we do. They are the first superheroes that felt like us on the page.”
