Next year, the stars of Hollywood and Korea collide in Tempest—an eagerly anticipated spy thriller set to launch exclusively on Disney+.
Earlier today, Disney+ announced that an extended lineup of US stars would be joining Korean icons Gang Dongwon (Peninsula)and Jun Gianna (My Love From The Star) in the upcoming series, including John Cho (Star Trek)as the US Assistant Secretary of State; Michael Gaston (Spenser Confidential) as the Secretary of Defense; Spencer Garrett (Air Force One) as US President Hauser; Christopher Gorham (The Lincoln Lawyer)as a military contractor, as well as Joel De La Fuente (The Man In The High Castle); Alicia Hannah-Kim (Cobra Kai), Brooke Smith (Silence of the Lambs); Jacob Bertrand (Cobra Kai); Romy Rosemont (Barry); Tom Lenk (American Horror Stories) and more.
Set in modern-day Korea, Tempest follows Munju, a highly accomplished diplomat and former ambassador to the United Nations, and Sanho, an international special agent, as they race to uncover the truth behind an attack that threatens the future stability of the Korean peninsula.
As well as the today’s newly confirmed cast, Tempest will feature the eagerly anticipated on-screen partnership of two of Korea’s most accomplished actors—executive producer Gang Dongwon as Sanho, an enigmatic agent shrouded in a veil of secrets, and Jun Gianna as Seo Munju, a career diplomat who turns her razor-sharp intellect to uncovering the source of a lethal attack. Tempest is directed by Kim Heewon (Queen of Tears,Little Women,Vincenzo), co-directed by Korea’s leading martial arts director Heo Myunghaeng (The Outlaws 4)and is written by Chung Seokyung (Decision to Leave,The Handmaiden,Little Women).
Tempest is one of the upcoming Korean series featured at the recent 2024 Disney Content Showcase, alongside newly announced The Murky Stream starring Rowoon, Shin Yeeun, Park Seoham and Park Jihwan; and The Manipulated starring Ji Changwook, Doh Kyungsoo, Lee Kwangsoo and Jo Yoonsu. In 2025, Disney+ will debut an incredible range of titles, spanning a vast array of genres. In January, audiences will witness the Disney+ debut of Kim Hyesoo in Unmasked, followed by Park Eunbin and Sul Kyunggu in Hyper Knife in March. As the year continues, audiences will get to see more of Korea’s biggest stars feature in unmissable stories including Kim Dami and Son Sukku in Nine Puzzles; Kim Soohyun and Cho Boah inKnock-Off; Ryu Seungryong, Yang Sejong and Lim Soojung in Low Life and so much more.
