The acclaimed director of Weapons and Barbarian is taking the helm for a new Resident Evil movie.

This 2026, Zach Cregger reimagines one of the most popular survival horror franchises and puts his own mark on the much beloved video game-inspired franchise.

In the new Resident Evil, a young man, Bryan, a medical courier who suddenly finds himself trapped in a night of chaos where he has to fight for survival.

Based on a script co-written by Cregger and Shay Hatten, the movie is unlike the first Resident Evil movies. Cregger's take on the video game adaptation looks a lot wilder and different, which is a good thing.

In the trailer, we see Bryan (played by Austin Abrams) enter an abandoned house and attempts to reach someone via phone call after realizing what was happening around him. He wanders through town with what looks like a rifle and a medical bag, as if evading something. Later on, he discovers several horrifying creatures. He tries to escape but it seems like the terrifying pursuers are not easy to evade.

A new era of evil is definitely coming in this new movie.

Cregger's version will feature creatures that are way different than the typical Resident Evil zombie. It also offers the kind of experience people get when they are playing the video game. Viewers will follow a character as he tries to go from Point A to Point B.

This will clearly be a whole new experience because Cregger has not been influenced by any of the previous films simply because he didn't get to see them.

Resident Evil is coming to Philippine cinemas in September.
