Prime Video recently launched Cattleya Killer, the first series collaboration between ABS-CBN and Prime Video, in a star-studded blue carpet gala premiere at the Trinoma Cinema 7.
Cattleya Killer main star Arjo Atayde led the outstanding ensemble during the special screening where Jake Cuenca, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Jane Oineza, Ria Atayde, Ricky Davao, Nonie Buencamino, and Christopher de Leon were widely received by the fans and fellow A-list celebrities.
“It’s pure collaboration with Direk [Dan], my co-actors, colleagues and a lot of research on my own,” Arjo said during the media conference that followed the screening. “I’m more of a visual learner so I’ve seen a lot of documentaries, a lot of videos, interviews. With that, I aligned whatever I watched with whatever the personality or character that ‘Cattleya’ demands,” he added.
Ria, meanwhile, shared how proud she was of the ensemble cast, saying this could be a world-class series that Filipinos can all be proud of: “It’s nice to be able to say you’re proud of what you’ve worked on. I feel like that [project] comes rare… so this is something I’m definitely, definitely proud of.”
Prime Video earlier announced that the six-episode series, produced by ABS-CBN International Production and Nathan Studios, will be available on the streaming platform on June 1 in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other selected territories.
The Amazon exclusive crime-thriller series was based on a classic ‘90s Filipino film, Sa Aking Mga Kamay (In My Own Hands).
In the series, many years after the infamous Cattleya Killer case, the man who cracked the case, Joven de la Rosa (Christopher de Leon, reprising his role from the film), is now an NBI deputy director. His youngest son Anton (Arjo Atayde) is one of his top agents, while his eldest son Benjie (Jake Cuenca) runs a foundation for traumatized women.
Joining the rest of the powerhouse cast during the premiere night was Ketchup Eusebio, Jojit Lorenzo, Rafa Siguion-Reyna, Frances Ignacio, Joel Saracho, as well as its director Dan Villegas and scriptwriter Dodo Dayao.
“I’m so proud of our team. Dream project itong ‘Cattleya Killer.’ Nakakatuwa that the actors were all very giving. Wala talagang maliit na role. All of them were very giving,” Villegas shared.
Ahead of the series’ release date on June 1, Prime Video has begun streaming the digitally restored and remastered version of Sa Aking Mga Kamay (In My Own Hands), directed by Rory B. Quintos and starring Aga Muhlach, Chin Chin Gutierrez, and Christopher de Leon.
The series was part of the 2021 Full Circle Series Lab, a Southeast Asian talent development initiative by the Film Development Council of the Philippines and French film company Tatino Films, represented by Creative Producer Tanya Bautista and Producer Edgar Joseph Johnson Mallari.
Cattleya Killer joins hundreds of other Filipino shows and films available on the Prime Video catalog, such as 10 Little Mistresses, Deleter, Family Matters, and Walang KaParis. Korean titles such as Island and Jinny’s Kitchen, anime hits such as Demon Slayer, on top of award-winning and critically acclaimed Amazon Originals like Citadel, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, The Boys, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and Emmy and Golden Globe winners Fleabag and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
