High Rotten Tomatoes score for 28 Years Later

’28 Years Later’ gets high Rotten Tomatoes score

28 Years Later breaks the franchise records as it holds the highest opening weekend box office numbers out of the franchise, at $60 million worldwide. The film helmed by original director and writer duo Danny Boyle and Alex Garland also got a Rotten Tomatoes score of 89%, beating its predecessors. 28 Years later is on its way to crash through more records as it’s on its way to becoming the most successful film from the 28 Days Later franchise.

28 Years Later explores the world almost three decades after the rage virus broke quarantine and ravaged humanity. Survivors living amongst the infected find a haven in Holy Island, a landmass protected by water and only accessible through a causeway that floods for most of the day. The film centers around the family of Jamie (Aaron-Taylor Johnson), his wife Isla (Jodie Comer), and their son Spike (Alfie Williams) as they explore the world beyond their safe haven.

Critics praise 28 Years Later and its unconventional take of the horror genre, with Hollywood Insider writing, “Although this film is extremely gruesome and bloody, there are still quite a few moments where we sit with the characters at their most vulnerable, and they play out in such beautiful ways, some that are rarely seen in big, studio movies anymore.”

Collider emphasises one new terrifying development with how the infected have transformed, writing, “While it technically isn’t considered canon anymore, Weeks Later provides some necessary context for this development, which we saw 28 Years Later take to another level as it showed how the infected had evolved, with one creation sticking out as perhaps the most frightening portrayal of a zombie/undead creature seen in a very long time.”

IGN puts the spotlight on the performances of the main actors, writing, “ Newcomer Alfie Williams ably shoulders the harrowing plot, flanked on either side by similarly strong performances from Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer.”

Find out why it got such a high Rotten Tomatoes score by watching the horror unfold as 28 Years Later is now in Philippine cinemas.
